Elisabeth karsten's review of fire. My new EP FIRE was recently reviewed by my dear friend Elisabeth Karsten in an essay titled "Music As An Expression Of The Paradigm Shift." Here I take a look at the nature of this review - and how it represents its own expression of the paradigm shift. A SISTERHOOD OF THE STARS Elisabeth and I have been friends and soul sisters for about 9 years now - a serendipitous celestial match-making ploy that had us move into the same building back in 2010. The main through-line of our friendship has been mutual support of the unfolding of our highest potential - and while this might sound a little woo-woo, I can tell you, this is the single most valuable trait a friendship, or any relationship, can have. It is a rare friendship - and my most cherished one. We have shared values of compassionate, yet razor sharp honesty, dedication to personal evolution and empowerment, an unyielding commitment to deep diving into our multidimensional personal landscapes, and integrating/healing all we can find in support for the increasing oneness of ourselves/each other/the collective. So... what's the point of me telling you this? Well... this level of soul-bond means that we have observed and accompanied each other's processes many times over, in this life and in others. This gives each of us a view of the larger evolutionary soul-arc of the other. So when Elisabeth writes here and now about my music, she is not only writing from this moment. She is writing with a birds-eye view of a god-knows-how-long process of "my collective" unfolding and the music paradigm in general - this is immensely valuable. HOW THIS REVIEW IS A SIGN OF A PARADIGM SHIFT "Listening to music that possibly opens new neural pathways and new lines of thinking is surely a good thing. Especially if it has such a highly sophisticated quality to it. It literally makes you think and In Elisabeth's review of FIRE, which you can read in English or German, she frames the piece around the signs and signals of a changing world. She looks at how the very nature of creative expression (and media consumption) is shifting from something prescribed by record execs and pop-chart trends, to expression and consumption based on individual tastes. Even in this framing, she herself is expressing a new paradigm within the review. On one hand she takes a look at the album in the context of the bigger collective trend of people choosing what they consume and no longer being fed by big media companies. On the other hand, she honors the very personal bond she has with the music maker (in this case me, but others are also referred to in the review), adding a transparent touch that deviates from the one-step-removed industry-speak of many reviews today. In one section, Elisabeth looks at FIRE through the transformational quality of music in general: "Listening to [FIRE], I realized that it is representative of what I consider the currently taking place shift of a paradigm on so many levels. So many areas are in crisis, from politics to entertainment, from science to art, from religion to economy and that for quite a while. Our world is in an alarming state in many areas: disease, pollution, poverty are rampant. The old ways obviously do not really serve us anymore – if they ever did. So we need to explore new ways – in all realms. Fortunately there also is an outpour of creativity in many realms. And more and more people are consciously exploring what´s serving them instead of just consuming what they´re being fed. For example people now choose what they want to watch, when and where online rather than just sitting down in front of the TV. So listening to music that possibly opens new neural pathways and new lines of thinking is surely a good thing. Especially if it has such a highly sophisticated quality to it. It literally makes you think and feel in new directions." It's a special review that is written by someone who is able to be objective, yet really KNOWS an artist - it carries a certain intimacy and gravity that differs from the musical deep-dives of industry experts. REVIEW HIGHLIGHTS Now let me tell you... having Elisabeth interview me for the review was a polar-opposite experience to sending out countless prospecting emails, hoping for a blog or reviewer to bite. The premise of the review was first and foremost love - love for authentic creativity - and this can be felt throughout. Not only does she write within her own love of creative expression, but her review honors my (and other's) expressions as well. Here are my favorite passages from the review. On wholistic music: "For me the music of Iokokanoa always reminded me of fractals – the complex harmonies and bigger and smaller acoustic surprises turn each song into an actual listening adventure. [...] And the more you listen to it, the more you discover." On music that transforms: "It seems that just by listening to FIRE, you can grow in consciousness." On vocal magic: "The combinations of songs and sounds on Iokokanoa’s EP FIRE [creating a most unique experience for the listener]: whoever is open to it can hear music that reaches much further than the mere listening experience – into realms beyond the mind and imagination." On my journey: "With her latest work she has definitely begun to move into the realm where she can unfold her unbelievable talent. Her sense of musical abundance and sensory exploration is just delightful." "In my humble opinion she has come yet again a big step closer to her very personal unique and mindboggling way of making her art – and allowing creation express through her." YOU SHOULD CHECK ELISABETH OUT If you've gotten this far in my post, you surely have a sense for our shared mutual admiration. However, apart from her review of FIRE, Elisabeth is one of the most potent, multi-faceted creative beings I know. I would like to highlight some of her works here, and encourage you to check her stuff out. YS: An Adventure Novel This incredible two-part adventure unfolds on two different time lines that ultimately merge into one, thereby offering new interpretation and insights of previously "unrelated" events. Both books are currently available in German. If you happen to know a good translator, get in touch! Read more about the books here. Blog: Gods of Balance If you read the review, you noticed it was on Elisabeth's blog, Gods of Balance! The space is her platform to express her observations of our collective consciousness growth. It is available in both English and German. Life Coach and Ritual Design Elisabeth applies her abilities of observation, creativity, unconditional love, and her healthy passion for personal mythology to help people uncover blockages to living their highest potential. And let me tell you, she's really really really good. You better bet our collaboration sparked a MEGA process together of which I am still feeling the benefits! She also applies these tools to craft positive, co-creational consciousness rituals. She works in person and remotely, and in both English and German. If you are looking for trusted, effective, neutral guidance, get in touch with her! REVIEW OF A REVIEW
So there you go! A Review of a Review - both driven by love and co-creation! Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed BOTH reviews. :-D Hugs, IOKOKANOA
